Innovation Proposal

Dear Mr. Hensley, Klein Oak High School has continually been one of the best performing schools in the city, and the school aims to incorporate technology into the teaching system to improve results. The Developmental department has been typical in the school, students have continually displayed average results and relaxed behavior. This makes me wonder how the students would perform if blended learning called for the incorporation of effective use of technology in the typical learning environment. Students with special needs are a critical part of society today, and utmost attention and care should be taken to help them to perform better at school. Blended learning has proven repeatedly to be successful in helping students with special needs because they tend to get irritated faster; hence giving them a chance to experience blended learning. The students will interact with teachers face to face, explore multiple choices while using virtual technology that will keep them excited. Traditional Learning Traditional learning is an integral part of education and cannot be forgotten entirely because it forms the foundation of learning and educating students. Establishing a one-on-one connection through communication is crucial. One of the aims of the special needs school is to give students an environment that is least restrictive so that they grow to the same extent as regular students. Online Learning Online learning is essential for students because it allows learning to occur virtually. Students could then have individualized programs that can improve their knowledge acquisition. It allows students to work at their own pace, do assignments when they feel comfortable and students can access content on their own time, As online learning, independent learning and the traditional learning environments have their advantages and disadvantages, it is essential to incorporate them so that the students get a little bit of multiple worlds, allowing them to be the most productive and get the most out of what they are learning. Blended learning addresses these challenges and provides most opportunities. There is a small, yet significant semantical difference and it promotes the aspect of choice, which is key in blended learning. I propose that teachers use Blended Learning to reduce the shortcomings. Incorporating Blended Learning teaching methods could allow students with special needs to grow and be successful. Many success stories of Blended Learning began with the school and parent body commitment to it; therefore, we should fully embrace blended learning. I believe this model will leverage our current resources as our student population continues to change. Our schools and department instructional methods should change to meet the needs of everyone. Also, face to face learning through virtual sites is another critical aspect of blended learning that teachers can use to talk to their students while also giving them an opportunity to be comfortable and use their voice and choice. Blended learning will help students relate positively and be able to manage their time and energy effectively. Even though it will require a lot of preparation to integrate the system into learning institutions fully, but we can make it happen with the best interest of our students in mind.

Sincerely, Monika Lewis Wiggins
